Lake Tsivlos and Zarouchla – Two Greek Gems

Embarking on a two-hour journey outside Athens, we explored Lake Tsivlos’ serene waters and wandered through Zarouchla’s timeless streets. After exploring these gems in various seasons and discovering hidden charms, we indulged in delightful culinary experiences. Our village house in Akrata, merely 45 minutes away, serves as our retreat, consistently pulling us to these captivating locales.

Lake Tsivlos

Lake Tsivlos: A Resilient Gem with Culinary Delights

Nestled amidst the Achaea landscape, Lake Tsivlos unfolded its history, birthed from a tragic landslide that reshaped the region. In 1913, the village of Sylivena met a disastrous fate as tremors preceded a massive landslide, submerging the village and creating Lake Tsivlos. Standing testament to resilience, the lake now mirrors the serene “Ο Παράδεισος” taverna by its shores. Offering traditional meals amidst picturesque views, this lakeside eatery welcomed us with local flavors, allowing us to immerse ourselves in tranquility.

Zarouchla: Timeless Village Charms and Culinary Fusion

A short distance away, Zarouchla charmed us with stone-built structures frozen in history. Our exploration led us to JazzCafeστοΡέμα, where jazz melodies paired with delightful treats created a cultural haven by the stream. Later, we ventured to the innovative “1022μ: Ορεινή Κουζίνα“, run by Marco and Marithea. This restaurant beautifully fused local products with Italian-inspired recipes, delivering a culinary journey through mountain flavors.

During our dual exploration, Lake Tsivlos and Zarouchla not only unveiled natural wonders but also treated us to a symphony of flavors at “Ο Παράδεισος” and “1022μ: Ορεινή Κουζίνα”, making our journey an unforgettable fusion of nature and gastronomy.
